LaunchCode is a non-profit solving the tech talent gap and paving new pathways to economic opportunity through apprenticeships and job placement in technology. LaunchCode partners with local educators and community organizations to create a transformative pathway for individuals looking to start new careers in technology.

LaunchCode is seeking super helpful contractors to serve as mentors in our LiftOff program and help us expand tech greatness in the Tampa Bay Area.

LiftOff is a unique program that get students job ready for apprenticeships in computer programming and information technology. LiftOff will help students plan and build a personal project to present to employers and improve students' soft skills they may need at interviews and at work. Students will also have the opportunity for live coding practice and mock interviews.

LiftOff mentors are responsible for leading group activities, mentoring students on their projects, and grading students' assignments. The Mentor is expected to attend a pre-program training session, become familiar with the curriculum before the classes and attend all class sessions.

This is a part-time, paid contract position that will start in April. Class meets for 3 hours once per week for 8 weeks, and the Mentors can expect to work a total of 5-6 hours/week. Classes will be held at Career Source Tampa Bay.


  • Lead a group of students, taking attendance and mentoring their projects.
  • Grade students' assignments and provide feedback.
  • Lead in-class activities such as live coding practice and mock interviews.
  • Check in with students and answer their questions outside class.


  • Proficiency with Python, basic HTML, SQL databases, and preferably Java, C#, or Javascript.
  • Experience building and deploying software applications from scratch.
  • Excellent communicator, interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Effective team member in high-intensity environments and able to thrive under pressure.
  • Preferred experience working with students, but not necessary.
  • Preferred knowledge of Agile Development Methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the Technical Hiring Process.


Mentors are contract positions, paid $12.50/hr up to 6 hours per week, and contractors are not eligible for employee benefits.
