JOB TITLE: Manager of Outreach Operations

The Manager will be expected to be present at outreach sites several times a week.

About The Night Ministry The Night Ministry is a non-denominational, Chicago-based organization that provides human connection, housing support, and health care to those who are unhoused or experiencing poverty. With an open heart, we compassionately accept each individual as they are and work alongside them to advocate for their immediate physical, emotional, and social needs while affirming our shared humanity.

In 1976, a group of diverse congregations founded The Night Ministry to address the challenges facing the Lakeview and Lincoln Park neighborhoods. Our first employee, Reverend Tom Behrens, met with homeless and disenfranchised individuals at night when they were at their most vulnerable. Under his leadership, The Night Ministry grew from a one-person operation touching hundreds of lives to a 150-employee organization serving thousands of individuals each year. The Position

The Night Ministry seeks a passionate, enthusiastic, and ambitious individual to join the Outreach Health Ministry team as its Manager of Outreach Operations. Reporting to the Director of Outreach you will manage services and support for OHM programs in accordance with The Night Ministry's vision and purpose.

The Manager of Outreach Operations will be responsible for:

  • Directly oversee CTA outreach; oversee supervisors that will manage the Street Medicine and Health Outreach Bus programs.
  • Work closely in conjunction with other staff members and volunteers to ensure services are provided at all outreach sites
  • Coordinate, supervise, and support the outreach professional staff, including onsite supervision and support several days or evenings per week.
  • Fill in on outreach shifts as needed
  • Foster and maintain partnerships at outreach sites with other agencies.
  • Orient new OHM volunteers and partners to outreach sites
  • Work with the Facilities Team to anticipate maintenance needs for outreach vehicles. Coordinate with the Outreach Professionals to transport buses to and from the repair shop if needed.
  • Keep OHM staff and other departments informed about outreach updates and schedule changes.
  • Offer supportive listening to visitors at outreach sites during street supervision.
  • Complete, maintain, and submit required documents accurately and on schedule as needed.
  • Oversee the coordination with the OHM staff, and keep an up-to-date inventory of supplies organized and accessible in storage areas.
  • Accurate and timely data entry in external and internal databases, i.e. Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).
  • Confirm staff has completed data entry in the EHR and ETO.
  • Attend All Staff, agency, and inter-agency meetings. Coordinate meetings and activities as needed.
  • Participate in training opportunities for Professional Development skills.
  • Special projects and duties as assigned.
  • According to The Night Ministry's policies, this position is expected to carry a cell phone and is eligible for partial reimbursement of monthly cell phone bills.

*Given the nature of the role, it is predominantly in-person.

Qualifications

The ideal Manager of Outreach Operations will bring most of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or three years of relevant experience working with people experiencing homelessness, poverty, or other vulnerable populations.
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory experience
  • Valid driver's license, evidence of insurability, able and willing to drive the Outreach Bus.
  • Physically able to walk and/or stand on the street, in all seasons, for as long as six consecutive hours. Able to lift and transport supplies to and from outreach sites.
  • Street smarts; able to work comfortably in all Chicago neighborhoods.
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills.
  • Proficient in office computer skills including Outlook and Word.
