 Inpatient Nurse Manager - FT

 

Summary:

Administer nursing services for a designated nursing unit & ensure nursing process is competently performed. Work collaboratively with staff in designated unit & with CNE.  Coordinate & direct nursing care & related activities of specific unit. Hours of duty may be long and irregular.

Essential Functions (Duties, Tasks & Responsibilities):

  1. Provide leadership, communication, planning, organizing, directing, implementing & negotiating to provide quality patient care.
  2. Review & update policies & procedures as needed for designated unit.
  3. Participate in PI reviews & correct deficiencies.
  4. Review & take appropriate action for all incident reports that occur within or impact unit.
  5. Ensure all new employees complete nursing orientation to unit.
  6. Hold staff accountable & account for clinical & managerial decisions made on unit.
  7. Coordinate all nursing unit functions to provide for efficient & effective operation of patient care responsibilities performed by staff members.
  8. Ensure attendance for staff meetings & post minutes for staff unable to attend. 
  9. Fill in for staff out due absences as needed.

 Management & Leadership function includes:

  1. Supervise, evaluate, discipline, motivate, provide direction & develop staff via training & educational opportunities.
  2. Participate in budgeting process & account for budget expenditures & variances throughout year.
  3. Submit periodic reports on operations, benchmarks, goal attainment & staffing requirements to CNE & others as needed.
  4. Initiate all job postings for position openings for vacant or new positions in department.
  5. Conduct periodic meetings with staff to share needed information updates & obtain employee participation & feedback.
  6. Develop & post work schedule for employees & adjust as needed (e.g. based on census) & edit & submit timesheets. Review employee requests for leave & approve/disapprove.
  7. Schedule & conduct interviews with applicants in conjunction with CNE & Human Resources & make selection decision.
  8. Conduct performance reviews & administer discipline in unbiased & objective manner.
  9. Ensure new employees & students receive proper orientation to position & department.
  10. Demonstrate good conflict resolution, problem-solving, team-building & leadership skills.
  11. Communicate mission, vision, values & goals of hospital & departments to staff & others.

 Qualifications:

Undergraduate or graduate degree in nursing, business or healthcare administration is preferred.  Minimum of three years of experience with similar job duties is preferred.  Progressive leadership experience is required.  Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois is required.
