Position Title: Design Engineer

Location: St. Charles, MO


Position Summary:

The Design Engineer is responsible for all creative and detail design for assigned projects; ranging from 2-20 weeks in duration and $5,000 to $1,000,000 of sales revenue.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Under moderate supervision, take projects that vary in size from small to large from conceptual idea to fabrication drawing.
  • Interface with Sales, Estimating and the Customer to understand the project scope and specific design expectations.
  • Communicate with shop personnel daily to address design concerns and project/work schedule.
  • Source and quote products for the project in coordination with Purchasing to provide materials per the project schedule.
  • Prepare fabrication drawings for outside sourcing and communication with vendors.
  • Monitor weights before, during and after production as well as promptly relaying any concerns to Sales and Production Management.
  • Review designs for safety and liability considerations, communicating concerns to Sales and Production Management.

Required Skills:

  • BS in Engineering and 0-2 years' experience.
  • Strong computer skills and experience in 3D solid modeling with basic AutoCAD or similar program.
  • Must understand basic concepts and procedures in an Engineering discipline.
  • Gather and analyze data to make technical recommendations.
  • Manage time wisely and self-prioritize to meet tight deadlines.
  • Willing to learn and work on projects that may include steel structures, aluminum structures, hydraulics, visual elements, electrical and controls, mobile structures, etc.

Preferred Skills:

  • Skilled in electric/electric control systems, hydraulics, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), PLC Programming, cabinet building, plumbing, HVAC and/or lighting.
  • Solidworks experience.

Physical Skills:

  • Sit for long periods of time.
  • Required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with arms.
  • Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
